• The Mullin Automotive Museum

The Mullin Automotive Museum is an homage to the art deco and the machine age – eras that produced exquisite art and magnificent automobiles. The museum is home to examples of the finest of historic French automobiles from the Bugatti to the Voisin as well as significant and representative decorative art from this same period.

      THE BUILDING

The Mullin Automotive Museum building was previously owned by legendary newspaperman Otis Chandler who once housed a collection of vintage automobiles and motorcycles in what is now the revamped museum structure. After Mr. Chandler’s death in 2006, Mr. Mullin acquired the property, then called “The Vintage,” and began an extensive remodel utilizing the talents of architect David Hertz and contractor Interscape Construction. Interior design and fabrication were done by The Scenic Route.

      THE ARCHITECT
David Hertz is the founder and president of Studio of Environmental Architecture of Santa Monica and has been an active participant in the environment and design communities for over two decades. Mr. Hertz has received numerous awards for architectural and materials design work. His work has been featured in many design publications including Dwell and Global Architecture. In 2007, the Los Angeles Chapter of AIA nominated him for the College of Fellowship. Mr. Hertz has served on the faculty of SCI-Arc, UCLA, and Art Center College of Design.

      UNIQUE DESIGN
The 46,821 sq. foot museum will incorporate elements that reference the past as well as the present in its distinctive design. The museum will include a roof garden, theater, gift shop and archives.

      IT’S GREEN
The Museum was designed with the environment in mind. The structure includes a solar photovoltaic roof system to capture energy and a planted "green" roof, making the building less dependent on traditional sources of power.
