• American Autowire Introduces Wiring Update Kit for 1960s GTOs

A new Classic Update Kit has been added to American Autowire’s series of wiring kits. The 1964-1967 Pontiac GTO Classic Update Kit is designed specifically for that make, model and year of car and is a complete wiring system with 13 features, including a replaceable headlight switch with internal 30-amp circuit breaker, retention collar nut, adjustable length shaft and custom knob.

A standard turn signal and hazard flashers are mounted onto the fuse panel and a new horn relay is mounted onto the main dash harness. The kit’s fuse box is designed to fit in the original location. The ATO fuse panels allows for easy fuse and circuit breaker accessibility, according to the company.

Other features include a harness that’s laid out and formed to allow for nearly all aftermarket accessories such as gauge packages, wiper systems, heat and air conditioning systems and more. The kit also features original switch connector bodies and separate under-dash courtesy lamps for use along with the original dome/interior lighting.
The steering column connectors can plug directly into most aftermarket steering columns or stock 1964-1967 GM columns that use stock GM turn signal switches, according to the company.

The kit’s instrument cluster wiring is designed with a “cluster harness disconnect” system for easier service and assembly, according to American Autowire. The original terminals and connectors are provided for stock cluster connections. The system will also connect into the popular gauges from a variety of aftermarket companies including Auto Meter, Classic Instruments, Stewart Warner, Dakota Digital and VDO.

Engine wiring includes connectors for original points-type as well as H.E.I distributors. Power and tach connectors are supplied for GM H.E.I distributors, and alternator connectors are supplied for GM “SI” series of internally regulated alternators. GM “CS” series of alternator adapters are available separately.
