Drag racing came to the Lehigh Valley in 1955 with the formation of the Lehigh Valley Timing Association. They helped bring this fast-growing speedway sport to the region by organizing and coordinating the events at Queen City and the Vargo Dragway – built specifically for these high-speed warriors and their commanding chariots -- in the 1960s. Visit this gallery and return to the early days of drag racing -- from the Lehigh Valley to raceways and back roads of the northeastern United States.
Examples in this display range from those produced by major automotive manufacturers to the stock autos modified by generations of fathers and sons who passed along a talent for innovation, a need for speed and a true love for this uniquely American sport.
