Gearstar has introduced a new series of 4L60E-based automatic transmissions. The transmissions include upgrades such as a 28-element sprag, a carbon fiber 2-4 band, high-energy friction discs, a 10-vane pump and a high-capacity 3-4 clutch drum.
The transmissions also feature heavy-duty steel plates, a Transgo shift kid, hardened rings, a revised pressure regulator, new solenoids, Torrington bearings and a Corvette servo, all of which help to increase their durability and performance, according to Gearstar.
Gearstar’s comprehensive transmission packages are ready to be dropped into a vehicle, and come complete with a high-performance torque converter, new pan, fluid cooler, fill tube and transmission mount.
The company offers its Level 2 4L60E overdrive transmission, which is rated at 450 horsepower, as well as Level 3 and Level 4 models that are rated at 500- and 650-horsepower, respectively. For LS series motors, the company offers 4L65E and 4L70E automatics that match up with the revised bellhousing bolt patterns found on these newer blocks.
For increased durability in its Level 3 and Level 4 packages, Gearstar utilizes the same five-pinion planetaries that GM integrated into the 4L65E and 4L70E transmissions. Each unit is dyno-tested prior to shipping, said the company.
