• INFORMATION ART Ralph Allen Massey

      On view May 1, 2010 through November 7, 2010

Ralph Allen Massey developed an interest in art after visiting the Detroit Art Museum where he was impressed by the Greco-Roman marble statues and a bronze reproduction of Rodin’s Thinker. He went on to graduate from Wilbur Wright Vocational High School in Detroit, Michigan where he studied to be a machinist. Massey later spent four years in the United States Navy then settled in Southern California,
making a living as a sculptor and painter. His current series entitled Information Art is a reflection of the barrage of random, unrelated images generated by all forms of media with which society is assaulted daily.

Massey groups the images into modules to emphasize that the compositions are indeed both arbitrary and unrelated, then overlaps the images to further play down their priority or relative importance. Massey believes that, like the trends in automotive design, art is a continuum with exciting new developments just around the corner.
