LOCATING A FUTURLINER TO RESTORE
After spotting Bob Valdez's Futurliner (converted into a motor home) while on a business trip in Palm Springs, California in January of 1998, Don Mayton knew he had to have one. He soon realized, however, that owning or restoring one would not be within his financial means. His search led him to the National Automotive and Truck Museum in Auburn, Indiana where they not only had one awaiting restoration, but they had a "Partner Program" where he could take it home to restore and they would help raise the estimated $200,000 to complete it. The museum owns the Futurliner and Don and his crew of volunteers are content to be part of an effort to bring the Futurliner back from the past.
The National Automotive and Truck Museum is located in Auburn, Indiana, in two of the former factory buildings of the Auburn Automobile Company.
Out back of the Museum the Futurliner sits, waiting for someone to take pity on it and restore it to its former glory.

The Futurliner was donated to the Museum by Bortz Auto Collection.
DON MAYTON, Director of Restoration is bitten by the "resto" bug and desires to take this baby home and restore it. Perched in the driver's seat, the look on his face all but seals the deal with the NATMUS Partner Program.
Least anyone should think Don could pull this project off himself, his patience and understanding wife CAROL MAYTON provides "behind-the-scenes" support, not to mention hosting the volunteers work crew at the dinner table each Tuesday.
