    Default 1947-59 Disc Brake Conversion Kit Question

    Hi all,

    New to the forum. I just purchased the 5lug disc upgrade for my 1950 chevy truck. Anyone know what the torque specs are for the spindle nut for the new tapered rollers and the brake caliper bolts?

    Good Morning and welcome to the forum.

    The torque is standard like you would find in a later disc brake truck. approx 15 ft/lbs, check for cotter pin hole lining up to the castle nut, back it off to line up the hole if needed. spin the rotor and check for any side play.

    The caliper pins: are approx 50ft/lbs

    Default Torque Spec Changes?

    I too am new to the forum, and also just bought the disc brake upgrade kit from CPP for my 1953 Chevy pickup. The original shop manual says 33 ft-lbs on the spindle nut, but am I understanding correctly that with the roller type bearings the torque will be reduced to 15 ft-lbs?

    Also, I was looking through the kit and don't think I have an allen wrench the size needed for the calipers. Can you tell me what size these are?

    The factory torque spec is for a roller type bearing... That will destroy the disc bearing!
    15ft/lbs.... max. The allen is a 3/8 6 point (common GM)
