1957 Chevy steering conversion
My wife and I just bought a 1957 Chevy Belair two door hardtop. We would like to change the power steering to one of the new CPP 500 boxes. The power steering box that is in the car is a 3580–A2 Ford power steering box which was made somewhere between 1960 and 1979. The Pitman arm appears to be Ford. The car is powered by a 350 Chevy which is equipped with what appears to be a Chevrolet power steering pump which is mounted on the drivers side of the engine with the alternator is on the passenger side of the engine. Does anyone know what kind of problems so I might run into when I change over the steering box? Has the steering column already been shortened? If it has how short will it be? I think will probably have to replace the Pitman arm and the center link, but I should be able to use the pump and lines. Any advice would be appreciated!
